A completed four-in-hand knot The Four-in-Hand Knot

If you would like, you may listen to an audio version of this video.

This knot was named for the group that popularized it, the Four-in-Hand club. It is very popular for its simplicity, ease of tying and for the narrow, somewhat-askew knot it produces. This knot is generally appropriate for formal wear, but may be more appropriate for more casual occasions. When I tie this knot, I usually like to use a narrower tie to complement the narrowness of the knot, though due to its low fabric consumption it is a good knot for just about any tie you throw at it. Along with the windsor and half windsor, this is one of the three most popular knots.
